No thrills for the cautious! It’s a saying Bryan lives by and what motivates him to keep learning new tricks, after twenty-something years of wakeboarding. Bryan was an early adopter of the sport and started wakeboarding way back before wakeboard boats were invented. He remembers training for the 1999 Nationals behind a sixteen-foot, wreck of a fishing boat and the days when dishwashing soap was an essential piece of kit (for squeezing into bindings).

In the early days, he was a Ballistics team rider and competed against international pros at X-Air. Since then, he’s held multiple national titles in the mixed, masters and veteran divisions. In Open, he laughingly remembers coming third and being hugely embarrassed handing back the trophy because the scores were wrong. More recently, he represented New Zealand at the World Champs in Abu Dhabi and was ranked sixth globally (vets).

Behind the scenes, Bryan was actively involved in the Elbow Water Ski Club for many years on the financial side of things and organising events. These days you’ll often find him on the judging panel, encouraging young talent and plotting how to grow the sport.
